This page contains links to all the activities and initiatives (in groups or as one-to-one support) that can be accessed through contact with the Ipswich Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre. Please follow the links on each of the images below for further information or contact the Centre. Please note that some of the pages contain links to information provided by other organisations. At the bottom of this page you will find links to other hospitals to which people with a cancer diagnosis may be referred and also links to the charitable organisations that fund the activities provided by the Ipswich Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre.


 

General support and information

Emotional Wellbeing

Counselling & Therapy and Complementary Therapy provide one-to-one support. A number of sessions can be made available.

HOPE self-management courses are for groups of up to twelve people with a cancer diagnosis. The courses are held with sessions once a week over a six week period, and are run throughout the year.

Physical wellbeing

Please click the Physical Activity image below to discover details of the wide range of activities available. For example, some are organised classes for groups of people (tailored to individual needs) whilst there is also a scheme that provides discounted gym memberships scheme for individuals. Most of these activities are suitable for people with any cancer diagnosis.

Exercises for people with a diagnosis of breast cancer are available face-to-face in groups or a pre-recorded version is available online.

Pelvic floor exercise is an online workshop for people with a diagnosis of prostate or bladder cancer. This can be supplemented by a set of group exercises following the workshop.

Prehabilitation-rehabilitation is a scheme that offers support both online and in-person to help people prepare for treatment and to recover afterwards (up to 15 weekly classes). This covers physical activity, emotional wellbeing and guidance on nutrition/diet.

Family and relationships

The Macmillan Family Support Service at Ipswich Hospital provides emotional and psychological support to children/teenagers and their parents when someone close to them has a cancer diagnosis. Click the image below for more information.

“Dream On” makeover days take place at a ladies boutique in Eye, Suffolk, and can be booked at the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre. Click the Body Image and Relationships image below to find more information about this initiative.

Practical Support

If you are in need of financial support we can arrange a referral to the Macmillan Benefits Team. Whilst initial contact from the Benefits Team will be by phone, a face-to-face appointment at the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre may be suggested to you.

If you have been told that you may experience hair thinning or hair loss as a result of treatment please visit the Cancer Wellbeing and Information Centre to choose from our range of headwear and donated wigs. We can arrange a referral to Frobishers (Ipswich) if you wish to obtain a new wig. For further details please click the Headwear and Wigs image below.
