Pelvic Floor Exercise

The workshop and exercise classes that follow are all provided online using Zoom

Who can attend the workshop and class?

They are aimed at gentlemen who have been diagnosed with prostate or bladder cancer.

You may have no problems but are about to have surgery or a course of hormone treatment and radiotherapy or other treatments which may cause some side effects.

You may already have some issues relating to incontinence. This may include needing to go for a wee more often, needing to go for a wee with a sense of urgency, leaking urine slightly or dribbling urine from time to time in between times when you need to go to the toilet.

All of these issues can be helped with engaging in pelvic floor exercises.

Following the workshop, we then offer a 4 week exercise programme to help maintain muscle mass which can be affected by hormone treatment, improve balance and again reinforce the exercises for the pelvic floor. Although you are encouraged to attend both the workshop and classes, you can choose to attend the workshop without attending the classses.

What are the aims of the workshop and follow-on classes?

The aim of the workshop is to explain how and why strengthening the pelvic floor can have significantly reduce incontinence.

The aim of the follow-on classes is to gradually build up your pelvic floor muscle mass over the 4 weeks by engaging in a variety of specific exercises.

What can you expect at the Workshop?

The workshop is presented by a pelvic floor specialist trainer, Zoe George, who also runs her own Fit club. Zoe has an excellent way of engaging with people, she is very motivating, fun, and will deliver an extremely informative workshop which includes a slide show to illustrate the pelvic floor muscles and how the exercises can improve symptoms.

During the workshop you will be guided through some simple exercises that you can carry out whilst seated.

You will be encouraged to ask questions during the workshop or if more personal you can contact Zoe privately after the Workshop.

At the end of the workshop you will be invited to book onto four weekly exercise classes that normally start soon after the workshop.

What can you expect from the 4 week exercise class?

You will be supported over the 4 weeks to improve your pelvic floor muscles. This will include specific exercises on your muscles, general posture and balance. Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothing, and trainers or comfortable flat shoes.

You will be provided with an information booklet to enable you to continue to carry out the exercises at home. The classes are kept light-hearted and fun to keep you motivated.
